I believe the slogan for our relaunch is the more things change the more they stay the same. And while my outside appearance has dramatically changed, my inside is stilled filled with a copious amount of useless knowledge and glitter. So, I decided to reach back into my roots and start writing a little but at a time to help the creative juices flowing. Song of the Day is back and today I wanted to share some of the music that helped lift the cloud of depression for me.
As we know, music is therapy and for me that is SKA. The person who delivers my inner monologue is not just talking like a Shakespeare character but is also Skankin’. (Skankin’ is a dance in the ska community and what my wife refers to when discussing me on Friday nights.) But earlier this year, I found a band with a lead singer who also came out as transgender this year. And look, when you see yourself represented in your favorite music genre, the heart and ears are going to take notice. We Are the Union became very special to me this year. And when I am feeling down or having an off day, I can put on any of their catalog and feel better. But their recently released album ‘Ordinary Life’ speaks to my soul at its core.
Today’s song of the day is going to put a smile on your face. And since we are in Spoopy Season, it’s only appropriate to sip on a PSL and listen to ‘Morbid Obsessions.’
