When the pandemic started, we watched different venues for entertainment need to close their doors for safety reasons. And one of the biggest mediums hurt by pandemic is the cinema. During 2020, movie studios adapted to bring their films to the fans. Instead of the big screen, movies would see a release on different streaming services such as HBO Max and Disney+. And while Disney+ charges a premium fee to watch their latest movies. But one Marvel star is angry that their movie released through the streaming service as well as the big screen.
Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over the release of Black Widow. She is claiming that releasing the film on the streaming service is a breach of her contract. Her salary on the film was based on how well the film did in theaters. And as we know Black Widow did not live up to the expectation that the previous Marvel films left behind.
Warner Media negotiated contracts when the company decided to add their films to streaming platforms, it seems to be the case that Disney did not follow those actions leading to this head-to-head lawsuit.
Disney has not released a statement as of this writing.
